Maureen Hecker-Rodriguez M.D. (Dr Hecker) is originally from Chicago, Illinois and is the youngest of 9 children. She comes from a large family of physicians (5 in total). She moved to New Orleans in 1975, attended UNO, and completed Charity hospital school of nursing in 1985.
She furthered her nursing education as a Critical Care RN and nurse Educator at Jo Ellen Smith Medical Center. In 1992, she pursued her Medical Education at LSU school of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana and obtained her MD in 1996. She completed Internal Medicine residency at LSU in 1999 and opened her own solo practice, Westbank Internal Medicine (1999-2005).
Due to events related to Hurricane Katrina, she joined Ochsner Foundation and subsequently moved to Touro Infirmary. In 2014 she pursued Medical Acupuncture training with the Academy of Pain research in San Francisco, California and was awarded certificate of completion. She is certified by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners in both Internal Medicine and Medical Acupuncture.
Combining her expertise and passion for Eastern and Western medicine, she opened Meridian Integrative Medicine in December 2016. Her passion for treating the whole person with a modern approach to medicine has garnered a following of devoted clients.
Dr. Hecker is married and has 2 children who attend catholic schools in New Orleans. She is fluent in Spanish.
